Step 1: Sourcing Quality Wood
We work closely with local tree and construction companies in St. Augustine to reclaim fallen trees whenever possible— whether from hurricanes, age, or development projects. Many of these trees are deeply rooted in history, some standing for hundreds of years in America's oldest city. By salvaging this wood, we preserve its story and transform it.

Every reclaimed piece of wood is kiln-dried to remove excess moisture, preventing warping and cracking. It is then planed to create a smooth, workable surface before being trimmed tor remove weak sections and imperfections. Each board is carefully graded for strength and grain quality, ensuring it is stable, durable, and ready for the building process.
Step 3: Custom Design & Consultation
We work closely with our clients to understand their needs, style preferences, and functional requirements. We'll guide you through the selection of wood species, finishes, and design elements, ensuring every detail is tailored to your space.

Step 4: Handcrafting & Construction
In our warehouse, we use a mix of traditional techniques and modern tools to carefully create each piece. Every component is carefully assembled to bring your custom design to life, with a focus on quality craftsmanship at each stage of the build.

Custom Builds, No Assembly Required (By You)
Each build is a hands-on process. Our team brings years of experience and a deep respect for the craft to every project. We take the time to carefully craft each piece, shaping and refining the wood to showcase its unique characteristics.
Step 5: Finishing & Quality Assurance
Each piece is treated with the appropriate protecting coatings to enhance its appearance and ensure long-lasting durability. For river tables and similar designs, we use epoxy resin to seal the wood, creating a smooth glossy finish that highlights the unique grain and creates the signature "river" effect. For other pieces, we apply water-based polycrilic to protect the wood while maintaining its raw, authentic look. Each piece undergoes a final inspection for quality, ensuring it meets our high standards for both beauty and function before it leaves the warehouse.

EcoPoxy Resin
At Old Town Timber, we've partnered exclusively with EcoPoxy resin, a leader in sustainable epoxy solutions. Made from bio-based, renewable resources, EcoPoxy offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based resins. Their commitment to sustainability aligns with our mission to create durable, high-quality pieces while minimizing environmental impact.

Black Diamond Pigments
We also use Black Diamond Pigments to add vibrant color and depth to our pieces. Known for their eco-friendly, mica-based pigments, Black Diamond Pigments perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainability while providing a stunning range of colors and effects. These high-quality, non-toxic pigments are mixed into the epoxy, enhancing its color and creating a visually striking finish.
